Help with Events

Throughout the church year, groups within the congregation organize and facilitate a number of events. We are always looking for volunteers to help put them on. More events may be added and current event details are subject to change so please contact the event coordinator or Program Council Chair Kay Poyner Brown if you have any questions. These are one-shot commitments and a wonderful way to meet new people.

Sunday Social Hour
Host a social hour after the Sunday Service. To sign up, contact Betty Holcomb.

Second Sunday Soup
What’s cozier than soup and salad with some friends, old or new? Join us after the service for some soup, salads, conversation and fellowship. Bring something to contribute, if you can. Offer to help with setup and cleanup. Sit with someone you don’t know very well. First U cooks are the best (or they go to really good grocery stores), and we hope you will make time to join us for Second Sunday Soup. And if your committee or church group is looking to highlight an activity or event, you can sponsor a Second Sunday Soup Lunch. Contact Cindy Pardo, Madeiria Myrieckes, or Evelyn Johnson to learn how. See you on Sunday!

Thanksgiving Family Dinner
It is a long, cherished tradition for us to celebrate the many paths we have followed and the gifts we have been given with a service and dinner just before Thanksgiving. The service begins at 6:00 pm, promptly, with dinner following. Childcare will be available for very young children. We need people to host a table. This service and communal meal is made special, in part, by the variety of beautiful and imaginative table settings our hosts provide. If you are able to fill this role, you will be asked to bring table settings, a small centerpiece, candles, and wine. We also need volunteers to help with the arrangements. To volunteer to help, contact Kay Poyner Brown.

The Unity Party
Volunteer to help out at our annual Unity Party in January to celebrate our Unitarian Universalist identity through multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-congregational and multi-generational unity with a fabulous potluck dinner, dancing, games, children’s activities, singing and poetry reading. Contact Kay Poyner Brown.

Talent Dinner
A festive dinner is served with our annual Talent fundraiser.
