Rev. Teri Schwartz with Timuel Black and Michael Strautmanis
10 a.m., Sanctuary
Gather for a special service in which we will celebrate the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The 52 years since his death have seen progress in racial justice—yet have also seen the persistent and pernicious plague of racism in ways both old and new.
In honor of Dr. King, we are thrilled to welcome First Unitarian member, Dr. Timuel Black, historian, activist, educator, storyteller, and mentor and friend to Barack Obama. He will be joined in conversation by Mr. Michael A. Strautmanis, an advisor to President Obama during his first term, who currently serves as the Vice President of Civic Engagement of the Obama Foundation. With joy we welcome guest musicians: jazz pianist Justin Dillard (http://jazzinchicago.org/jazzfest/justin-dillard/) and vocalist Meagan McNeal (https://meaganmcnealonline.com/). Come to be inspired to work for the future that Dr. King dreamed for us all.
