First U’s Criminal Justice Task Force, in conjunction with Indivisible Southside, will hold a community forum on police reform and police accountability. We will focus on the consent decree being negotiated between the Illinois Attorney General, community organizations and the City of Chicago based on the Department of Justice findings at the Chicago Police Department.

Kathy Hunt Muse of the Illinois ACLU and Aneel Chablani of the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights will join as part of a community educational panel to discuss the challenges and prospects for police reform. Also invited: Craig Futterman of the University of Chicago Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture.

The separate suits of BLM and Community Renewal along with ACLU have now been consolidated with the Attorney General’s suit: Chicago Tribune story. All are encouraged to weigh in on the content of the federal consent decree to settle the suits against the city regarding needed reforms of Chicago Police Department. You can submit input via the website.
