Global Studies Group Summer Reading – “Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America” June through September

Our summer read is Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America by Heather Cox Richardson. All are welcome, whether you have read the assignment or not!

From the forward:

America is at a crossroads.

A country that once stood as the global symbol of democracy has been teetering on the brink of authoritarianism.

How did this happen?

Is the fall of democracy in the United States inevitable?  And if not how can we reclaim our democratic principles?

September 1 at 11:30 a.m.

We plan to finish discussing the book Democracy Awakening, by Heather Cox Richardson, specifically “Part 3 Reclaiming America”, and the “Conclusion”. We also need to decide on our next read so bring ideas—hint: we are thinking we need to read more about Africa.

After that we will adjourn to enjoy a potluck picnic and each other’s company.

For more information, please contact Ellen LaRue. (It will help a lot to know if you are coming to the potluck and what you will bring.)
