First U Women’s Group
Our WOMEN’S GROUP invites women members and guests to come together for lively and thoughtful discussions on many topics including the numerous challenges of aging, systemic racism/white privilege/supremacy, and the UU Seven Principles. Our monthly meetings are typically held every second Sunday on Zoom. We also participate in hikes, museum trips, potlucks, and more. Please Contact Christen Morrow.

October 5, 2024 First forum
On Sunday, October 6 at 11:30, the First U Women’s Group welcomed Dr. Neha Bhardwaj and Luna Malbroux as our First Forum presenters. They led us in a discussion about the current landscape of Reproductive Healthcare and Reproductive Justice.
Dr. Neha Bhardwaj, MD, MS is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Chicago. Her primary focus is family planning and contraception. Dr. Bhardwaj is “an expert in complex contraception, helping women and families who have trouble conceiving.“ She is “passionate about using research to improve reproductive healthcare and access to care.”
Luna Malbroux, a church member and founder of The Joy Channel, outlined the importance of reproductive justice as a vision and a framework to support those most targeted by bans, disenfranchisement and targeted propaganda. As a group, we explored how mutual aid and community are tools that fill the gaps of organizations and institutions. Focusing on ‘choice’ alone, limits the opportunity to work collectively towards bodily autonomy, and safe and supportive communities.
September 25 Meeting– 1:00 pm via Zoom. There’s lots to discuss including the planning for an October First Forum on reproductive rights.

1st UNITARIAN WOMEN’S GROUP ANNUAL REPORT 2023-24
SUCCESSES
- On December 17, 2023 the Women’s Group organized a baby shower in Chris Moore
Parlor for Elizabeth Lund. It was a joyous occasion. - On April 14, 2024 in Hull Chapel we were fortunate that two members of our
church, Dr. Catherine Harth and Dr. Carol Saffold gave a talk about their work in
women’s health care. This discussion concentrated on the racial disparities in
women’s health care. - We have continued to be warmly supportive of one another during life’s challenges,
losses and triumphs.
POTENTIAL CHALLENGE IN THE UPCOMING YEAR
- Membership over the last 4 years has ebbed and flowed. Our current participation level of
participation is at a lower point than we would like. Thankfully our current core group is
continuing to have thoughtful discussions and to plan future activities. We are especially
committed to growing an inclusive, multigenerational and multiracial women’s group.
