The mission of the Global Studies Group (GSG) is to study current international events. Members identify critical areas of the world that they would like to learn about, and select readings for discussion.

We meet on the first Sunday of each month after the service, or after First Forum or Roundtable if there is a conflict. Be sure to check the EVENTS page to be sure. Newcomers and drop-ins are totally welcome. For information, please contact Ellen LaRue.

For our November 2024 meeting, we discussed the introduction to The Fate of Africa, available online through Google Books. For December, we’ll move on to Chapter One, but in January, we’ll put that massive book aside and take up another one entirely: Walter Rodney’s 1972 book How Europe Underdeveloped Africa. Some group members read this book earlier, but all are willing to see how it stands up against the test of time.

Please join us whether or not you’ve read the material listed her. We welcome additional information that you are willing to share.
